For example, our laboratory is able to conduct Flow Cytometry, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Diagnostics testing without the need to split samples. This allows for preserved specimen integrity, reduced transport time and faster TAT. Moreover, all three test results are able to be integrated in one physician report.

Technologically-advanced testing systems allow med fusion’s Biochemistry laboratory to combine quality and productivity with our extensive menu. Testing for general chemistry and immunoassay on automated platforms is managed using a specimen tracking and software integration system. An increase in the reliability of results and system hardware and software means fewer repeat tests, recollects and less downtime.

Our Biochemistry laboratory offers a comprehensive testing menu for chemistry, endocrinology, tumor markers and therapeutic drug monitoring. In addition, automated immunoassay is used for screening hepatitis, syphilis and HIV. Esoteric biochemistry testing menu includes lecithin sphingomyelin (LS) ratio as well as testing for growth factors.

The Biochemistry laboratory also offers specialty services such as 7-day-a-week Western Blot confirmation testing for HIV and for serology screening of organ donors.

The med fusion Electron Microscopy (EM)/Imaging facility is a nation-wide service that provides EM and Imaging services to many clients. Our emphasis is on ultra-structural studies of renal and neuromuscular specimens, in addition to imaging services for brightfield and fluorescence microscopy.

Images are provided to clients via a secure web portal with an image repository dedicated to each client’s images. The electron microscope utilizes the latest in digital imaging instruments with an Olympus SIS 11MP camera system that can allow clients to view live streaming of images.

High-resolution fluorescent, polarized, and brightfield imaging up to 12MP and the use of ultra-thin resin sections for brightfield microscopy are offered at our EM/Imaging facility. The use of high-resolution electron microscopy imaging and live image viewing with a secure portal for client images provides an enhanced level of patient care.

The Immunology laboratory is equipped with automation ranging from multiplex, chemiluminescent, electrophoresis (both capillary and zone), IFA and nephelometry to manual assays. The field of clinical immunology is vast and constantly evolving. Our state-of-the-art laboratory is equipped both technically and professionally to meet the growing demands of this market segment.

Immunology is expanding its testing menu to offer the following tests: allergy profiles, anti-citrulline peptide antibody, anti-phospholipid and celiac panels. Autoimmune testing is offered additionally by multiplex methodology. Moreover, alpha-1 antitrypsin phenotyping is another new test currently being offered. Additional test panels are continuously being added in order to meet the demands of this constantly evolving market.

The Infectious Diseases laboratory analyzes material for the presence of a variety of biological agents. A number of approaches may be used to detect organisms: culture, microscopic examination, nucleic acid amplification or antigen detection. med fusion employs liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry, also referred to as LC-MS-MS. Tandem MS is an analytical technique for the determination of analyte concentrations in a sample. The technique is notable for the specificity of the results. It is also used for elucidating the chemical structures of unknown molecules, such as peptides and other chemical compounds. The use of mass spectrometry offers numerous benefits for enhancing patient care in other specialties such as endocrinology and Vitamin D testing.

FDA-mandated pharmacokinetics studies have long utilized Tandem MS due to the specificity of the results and the need for high sensitivity to observe low drug concentrations. However, Tandem MS for routine laboratory testing is new due to the relative expense of the technique. Therefore, med fusion employs many of the optimization and robustness lessons learned from the pharmaceutical industry.

Laboratory-based monitoring of compliance with Tandem MS generates data specific to a single drug rather than to a drug class and hence, is the gold standard for the field.

The Special Coagulation laboratory provides testing for the diagnosis and therapeutic management of bleeding and thromboembolic disease. Disorders of hemostasis can be acquired or congenital. Careful laboratory assessment helps clinicians sort out the root cause of bleeding or thrombosis in a given patient with monitoring of therapy.
